The idea that magnesium can actually relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome is purely anecdotal evidence (i.e. people have told stories about it, like a "wives tale"). It has been reported in some sources that magnesium helps with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms such as irritability, breast tenderness, cramping and headaches. This has never been proven in any relevant clinical study.
Although it can be explained how magnesium may potentially prevent these symptoms, its efficacy is questionable and may be related to a placebo effect (this is when you think it's helping helping you, even though it isn't in reality). Remember, you always have to question these studies!!
