Sphinx Pushups - It's Like Going Back In Time!
Sphinx Pushups Thousands of years ago, ancient Egyptians constructed the pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx as tombs for their royal burials. What better than to name a pushup after them! The Sphinx pushup is a great variation to really work those triceps and core muscles. In fact, you can add variations to the variations to really make a unique move. The Exercise • Position yourself in the normal pushup position. Except this time, rest your body weight on your forearms instead of your hands. Keep your fingers and arms facing directly forward, while also keeping your hands flat on the floor. Now you look like the Sphinx of Giza! • Remember to tighten your core muscles to ensure your back, pelvis and legs remain aligned. • Now, push up off your forearms until your arms are straight. This is a real triceps killer! • Slowly go back down to the starting position. • Maximum reps! A Few Pointers for your Sphinx Pushups • If you're having trouble with it at first, try coming down to your knees. When you build more strength, you'll be able to do the normal version more easily. • Try stacking your feet for a real core workout! Simply place one toe on top of the other heal and switch after every 3-5 reps. • You can add intensity in a variety of ways. For example, you could work your core a bit more by bringing a knee to the chest after getting to the top of the motion. Alternate legs! You could also add a back stretch. In other words, arch your back so that your pelvis moves towards the floor and your head tilted upward. The point is, be creative! You can really add anything to a pushup to make it work what you want it to work.
